Gear for the Gun Range

Whether or not you are already a gun owner, it’s a good idea to find out if any of the local ranges in your area rent guns and go try out shooting before you buy your first gun. While the guns at any range may not be in pristine condition, they are well-maintained and a good way for you to try out some different kinds of guns. Also, if you aren’t perfectly sure how any particular gun is operated, be sure to ask a range employee for help. Whether you’re renting a gun, accompanying another shooter, or bringing your own guns, make sure you bring all of the following to the gun range so that your trip is most enjoyable:

  • Unloaded Gun & Appropriate Ammunition
  • Magazines & Speed Loaders, if Applicable
  • Gun Oil
  • Gloves
  • Extra batteries for Electronics
  • Hearing Protectors
  • Shot Timer
  • Tape Measure

Most gun ranges allow guests to bring in their own ammunition for their own guns. If you decide to rent a gun, you may have to purchase the range’s marked-up ammunition. Of course, every shooting range has its own set of rules, but in general, it’s a good idea to listen to the Range Officer and follow firearm safety rules.
