Get Ready for Fall Turkey Hunting
There is nothing quite like the thrill of fall turkey hunting in Canada and the United States, and if you are going to be able to go out there and grab yourself a gobbler, you will want to make sure you are equipped with the right hunting gear. So, what do you need to give yourself an edge when you head out into the field? We have created a helpful little guide that will make sure you are ready.
Clothing – As the cool air starts to blow in, you are going to want to make sure you are wearing clothing that will both help you stay warm and comfortable as well as well hidden. Turkeys have unbelievable eyesight, which means they can see you coming from far away if you aren’t properly decked out. The key is to find some camo that fits your local surroundings and wear it head to toe. Back that up with some strong, weatherproof boots, and you will be on your way to a successful hunt.
Turkey Vests & Packs – You are going to want to bring some kind of pack capable of lugging your gear with ease. There are lots of packs out there now that are specifically designed to carry everything you need to hunt turkey, including designated call pockets, integrated game bags, and more.
Turkey Calls, Decoys, & Blinds – Turkey hunting is a close-up game. That means you will need to get them strutting your way while staying concealed. There is a wide selection of game calls, decoys, and blinds out there that can help you grab the birds’ interest, and a knowledgeable hunter can help you find the right fit for your needs.
Ammunition – While shotguns and bows are the usual tools used to go turkey hunting, it is important that you are also using the proper ammunition to ensure you can snag the bird for your table when it gets into range. You will want to look for turkey loads when it comes to finding the right shotgun shell, while the type of arrow you choose will depend on if you are trying to take neck shots, headshots, or vital shots.
Tick Repellent – Finally, if you are going to be walking among the trees and leaves trying to find that perfect shot, you will want to make sure you are appropriately protecting yourself from ticks and the diseases they spread.
