Hunting and Your Health

THE AGE OF THE SUPER HEALTH - ANOTHER REASON TO HUNT

It may be disheartening to read that only 8% of those who make resolutions, succeed and achieve their goals. This means that an alarming 92% flake out on their dreams. Those who wish to improve their fitness or lose weight, tend to crash and burn for a number of reasons, but the one that resonates with many is that the routine is just too boring. A way to spruce up that routine is by taking on an activity that is enjoyable, yet physical. This is good news for hunters who want to improve their fitness and still land a mighty deer.

FOCUS ON THE PHYSICAL PARTS OF THE HUNT

In a hunting party, there is always that one hunter who tends to disappear when the hard labor starts such as setting up camp or bringing the kill home. Don’t be that guy. Instead, knuckle down and break a sweat taking on some of the physical tasks. This doesn’t mean setting up the entire camp or carrying a deer by yourself but exert effort to benefit from the physical activity. Also, choose to walk as many of the routes as possible instead of always taking the truck. Do light stretches and breathing exercises in the hide if at all possible to improve circulation and get some oxygen into the bloodstream.

HUNTING AS A PASTIME REDUCES STRESS

Physical activity is one of the key elements in reducing stress and hunters get to experience both the joy of the hunt and the physical results thanks to the nature of the activity. Perhaps it’s the ingrained desire to hunt or the time outdoors that does a hunter well, but getting out and spending time with likeminded people have a great effect on the psyche. Physical fitness is not enough to stay strong and healthy, as a healthy mind should also form part of the equation

GOOD FOOD EQUALS GREAT NUTRITION

It’s no secret that venison is low in fat, making it the ideal lean protein which is great for sustainable energy and heart health. During the hunt, hunters may also come across some berries and roots that are high in vitamins and minerals, which make them the ideal companions for roasted venison. This does require an in-depth knowledge of what is out there, as not all berries and roots are edible.

It’s important to enjoy a physical activity in order to make it a lasting addition to a health regime. Those who are easily bored owe it to themselves to do a bit of research on activities that would both capture their interest and keep it. For hunters, there is simply no other choice but the love of the hunt.
