Do You Really Need Optics On your Rifle?

Optics are a crucial part of the modern gun owner’s equipment. The variety of options available on the market can be confusing, so it's important to know what you’re looking at when selecting binoculars and optics in Canada.

Human eyes have a lens and a pupil, which controls how much light reaches the optic nerve and is translated into an image by our brains. Experts in hunting at Canadian gun retailers will tell you that binoculars and optics are similar in that they gather light and transmit it to our eyes. The bigger the objective lens, the more light enters the optic.

Optics or riflescopes are critical to ensure you hit your target at the range or humanely harvest an animal. A sight with magnification helps reduce human error. However, riflescopes must be bore-sighted, meaning that the crosshair is properly aligned with your barrel. The simplest way to boresight a rifle is to use a tool that attaches magnetically to the muzzle and adjust the scope based on how this tool aligns with the reticle.
