What You Need to Have Before Going Ice Fishing

Ice fishing is a great way to make the cold, wintry months as much fun as possible. There’s not much that can compare to the challenge of luring and landing a fish from the chilly depths of an ice-covered lake. But there are a few things you will need to have, and our team at Al Flaherty’s is here to tell you what they are.

Your most crucial ice fishing gear in Toronto is not really gear at all – it’s clothing. You can’t spend hours on a frozen lake without the best possible winter wear, including warm boots, jacket, pants, hat, and gloves. They are essential.

The rest of the ice fishing equipment you need is for the actual sport itself. At the minimum, you need a fishing rod, line, hooks, and lures, plus an auger to cut a hole in the ice. Don’t forget a scoop to keep the hole free from ice. Without these items, you might as well stay home. It’s a good idea to have a rod holder to free up your hands, and all ice anglers always have a good bucket with them for their gear and catch.

For comfort, think about getting yourself a seat as well as a shelter to put up over the hole to protect you from the driving wind. A heater is always a good addition too.

When you’ve got this equipment, plus some warm drinks and a good lunch, you’re ready to go. Happy fishing!
